August is in full swing and that means Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment is just around the corner! Whether you attend a large, SEC school or smaller, private university, sorority recruitment is serious business. Naturally, PNMs are anxious to impress the chapter women and find their homes, but recruitment can be just as overwhelming for an active member!
Long, busy days can get stressful, so here are some tips and tricks to help you plan ahead to make recruitment a breeze this year.
Keep your makeup masterpiece intact:
Even though you don’t have to run from house to house in the hot sun anymore, it is still likely that you’ll get sweaty and oily throughout the day. To prevent the summer heat from melting your makeup off, use a makeup setting spray and oil-blotting wipes. One of my favorite affordable setting sprays is Nyx’s Matte Finish, which can be found at most drugstores.
Simple styles:
As tempting as it is to go crazy when it comes to recruitment hairstyles, bigger may not always be better. Know your hair type and how it reacts to the weather in the state your university is in. If your curls will fall an hour after you style them, you may be better off keeping your hair straight and sleek. Be honest with yourself and choose a look that will last throughout the day.
Test your outfits:
Is that strap going to dig into your shoulder and bother you all day? Is this material going to itch? Will you be worried about bending over in that dress? To save yourself the stress during recruitment week, find and fix potential issues with your recruitment wardrobe ahead of time to ensure everything fits perfectly. When you’re not constantly thinking about your outfit issues you’ll be more focused on connecting with the PNMs..
Break in those heels!:
Most importantly, get well acquainted with your heels for the week. Many chapters require members to wear pumps, wedges, or stilettos and you don’t want to be worrying about tripping. Wear your heels around your apartment while tidying up or practice walking up your front steps to get comfortable a few weeks before recruitment.
Maintain perspective:
It can be easy to get swept up in the excitement and stress of recruitment, so be sure to keep a clear perspective of the purpose of the week-to bond with your sisters, make the PNMs feel welcome, and find a great group of new members for your chapter! Keeping a positive and loving outlook will enhance your experience as well as that of your chapter and the Panhellenic community as a whole.
The more fashion and beauty details you have covered before recruitment week, the more you can focus on your conversations with PNMs and find the future members of your chapter! Best of luck to all PNMs and active members in the coming weeks!
