Trend Spotting: Summer 2011

It’s almost June, and as far as the weather is concerned (especially around here!) it’s when summer REALLY begins.  Which means summer fashion is in full swing – check ’em out and try ’em out!

I Love The 70’s

Bohemia is big this season.  Eclectic prints, disco flares, and flower-child flowing dresses are taking over to runway.  Go all out with this trend with a full maxi dress in a fun print or, for a hint of the 70’s, try a big floppy hat!

Punk Rock City

Not into the 70s? No problem, step into the 80s with this summer’s punk style (and my favorite trend of the season!) Crank it up with heavy embellishments, leather (in a bright color for the warmer weather), and scour resale stores for old-school band tees.  Don’t want to rock out completely? Try distressed cropped jeans or denim shorts – shows edge without being too crazy.

The Blue Jean Period

(left to right): Celine, Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabana

Go all-Americana with true blue denim.  Denim is totally summer – think the Fourth of July and days at the beach! Rich, blue jeans will get you started – look for an indigo wash, make sure they aren’t too dark.  If you’re not a big jean wearer like me, go for something small, like a vest or a romper and accessorize with neutrals.

Now, since the sun is shining like crazy, go out there and model your trendy wardrobe! Don’t forget sunscreen!
